Friday Flowers

From the 01 August issue of Monthly Mood.

A Summer Tradition

One of my favorite summer traditions is bringing home flowers every Friday.

Sometimes they're from the farmers' market or the little flower stand I pass on my afternoon walk. Other weeks, I wander into the garden with a pair of scissors and gather whatever is blooming. Sweet peas, cosmos, daisies, herbs, or a branch that's caught my eye. It feels like bringing home a little piece of the season.

I trim the stems, fill a vase with fresh water, and find a place where I'll see them often. The ritual takes only a few minutes, but somehow it marks the beginning of the weekend. It slows me down and reminds me that a new part of the week has arrived.

Perhaps what I love most is that the flowers slow me down long after I've brought them home. The morning light catches the petals while the kettle boils, and I notice them while making breakfast, washing the dishes, or passing through the kitchen. They gently pull my attention back to the present and to the season unfolding outside my window.

I think beauty quietly shape our days. A bowl of ripe peaches on the counter, the windows open to a warm breeze, and a vase of fresh flowers on the table don't seem like much on their own. Yet together, they create a home that invites you to slow down and enjoy being in it.

There's something deeply comforting about bringing beauty into everyday life.

I love seasonal traditions. They give shape to the weeks and become gentle markers that help us notice the passing of the season.

If you're looking for a new summer ritual, perhaps this is one to borrow. Bring home a few flowers this Friday. Place them where you'll see them often. Let them remind you that beauty belongs in ordinary days.
